October Virtual Fun

Discover plenty of new virtual fun opportunities online. Let’s go!

Explore Suffolk

The fun continues with Suffolk Tourism’s second activity book available now online. Learn about Suffolk’s many attractions with coloring pages, word searches, mazes, and more! Besides having fun coloring, your kids are also developing writing and reading skills while learning facts about Suffolk, local businesses, and important city themes. Download your free copy of the activity book at the link below:

Homemade Art

Try new styles of art using materials from around your house with Virginia MOCA’s online tutorials. Create collages using papers, magazines, photos, and more. Get creative with the materials you can find while incorporating paints and 3D effects, then share your finished works on social media using the hashtag #VirtualVAMOCA. Stop in the museum in person, too, to visit the newly designed ARTlab, now a “no touch” space you can interact with using your own mobile device! Visit www.virtualmoca.org to embark on your creative journey.

Animal Dance Party

Interested in learning more about joining Girl Scouts? On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and select Wednesdays through December, hop online for an Animal Dance Party with Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast. The girls will have a blast learning about animals while dancing to some fun music in a virtual setting, while caregivers meet the GSCCC team and learn about the different programs and activities offered. To choose a time that works best for you, email invitation@gsccc.org or call 757-547-4405.

Hurrah for Learning

There’s no need to miss out on the performing arts. The Hurrah Players, Virginia’s leading family theatre company, now offers virtual classes for ages 5 and up. Learn valuable skills in jazz, hip hop, acting, improve comedy, tap, and more. You can also purchase a membership for the Hurrah Players’ 37th Season or set up monthly donations to help support their efforts to continue bringing the arts to kids of all ages during this difficult time. For a full list of class offerings, email hurrah@hurrahplayers.com or call 757-627-5437.

Arts Education

The American Theatre is also offering virtual performing arts education for kids of all ages throughout the season. Ignite your creativity from the safety of your home with teen acting classes, puppet workshops, vocal coaching, and improv. There’s even a program for fruit and vegetable carving! Let your child explore new and favorite creative outlets through these fun virtual classes. Email hugo.morrison@hampton.gov or call 757-722-2787.

Virtual Arts Experiences

To go even deeper into visual and performing arts learning, consider a virtual program with Young Audiences Arts for Learning Virginia. These programs are fun ways for kids to engage with the arts in silly ways, learn about important moments in history, discover classics, and more. These creative classes will help students feel connected through the arts even through remote learning. Visit www.yav.org or call 757-466-7555 for more information.

Literacy Learning

Enhance literacy skills while connecting with other kids. The Virginia Beach Public Library offers virtual programs for all ages, including family storytimes, teen book chats, and adult learning. This month, participate in some spooky Halloween activities, including the opportunity to pick up a to-go kit filled with fun crafts for Pre-K to grade 2. Visit www.vbgov.com/library-events to learn more.

Halloween Fun

HeARTfully Created is hosting a virtual Halloween Paint Night for the young and the young at heart. “No Tricks, All Treats” guides participants through a paint tutorial to the theme of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” For a list of supplies and to learn more about participating, visit www.heartfullycreated.com or call 202-596-6908.
